5 Perfect Summer Reads

If you’re anything like me, when you go on holiday, you take more books than clothes; in 2016 when I went to Italy for 2 weeks, I took 8 books, and had finished all of them in the first 6 days. For me, there’s nothing better than relaxing in the sun, by a pool, with an ice-cream and a good book. So, as we are now in the middle of holiday season, I thought I would comprise a list of my ideal holiday reads, in case you’re in need of some recommendations. Also, in the name of internet transparency, I should mention that all links featured are affiliate, which means that if you do buy any of my recommendations, I will earn a very small amount of commission at no extra cost to you – if this is not something you’re for, you could always pop into your local book store to buy any of the books!

1. The Selection (and its sequels, The Elite and The One) by Keira Cass

I first read the Selection after receiving it for my birthday last year from a friend, but I put off reading it initially because I thought it wouldn’t be *my thing*. I was soooo wrong! The trilogy has been compared to the Hunger Games, but with less violence – although it is slightly predictable, and sometimes quite frustrating, it’s definitely worth a read for all the romance and pretty dresses!

2. Amy and Roger’s Epic Detour by Morgan Matson

Amy and Roger is quite probably my favourite book of all time, and whilst all of Morgan’s books make great summer reads, there was no way I could write a book recommendation post without including this. Read it. You will not regret.

3. Wilde Like Me by Louise Pentland

With its sequel Wilde About the Girl due to come out in August I had to include this book. Written by Louise Pentland, aka Sprinkle of Glitter, aka Queen of the weekly vlogs, this book is so honest and real, it’s inspiring, Although it’s technically Women’s fiction, and largely about the protagonist Robin’s struggles with motherhood and adulting – something I can’t massively relate to yet, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

4. Small Great Things by Jodi Picoult

This book is one of the most powerful things I’ve ever read – it’s quite different to all of the others on this list as it is in now way as light-hearted or jolly, but I had to include it because I honestly believe everyone should read this book. You might know Jodi as the author of My Sister’s Keeper, and Small Great Things is just as emotional. It’s definitely worth a read.

5. Since You’ve Been Gone by Morgan Matson

Oh would you look at that! Another Morgan book! *pretends to be shocked*. How could I not include SYBG – it’s the ultimate summer read. I aspire to complete every single thing on Sloane’s bucket list one day, and you probably will too – Emily’s summer is definitely goals!

I hope that this post has inspired you to get reading this summer. If you have read any of the books I mentioned in today’s post, be sure to let me know what you thought in the comments. Also, if you have any recommendations please do comment so that I can check some new books out in time for my holiday!

Until next time,

Hannah ❤
